CATARRATTO KATESo why Catarratto? Put simply, becasue this much maligned grape can make fantastic wine.
Catarratto is Italy's most widely planted white grape variety and the bad stuff is responsible for quite a large percentage of Europe's wine lake. It's long been a staple consituent of Marsala, so it's no surprise to find that there's a good deal in Sicily's vineyards, and it's from here that we're starting to see some cracking little wines emerge.
For those who don't know, Sicily is fast becoming the source of many of the best values wines around (try the brilliant CA DI PONTI wines if you don't believe me) including light, crips and fresh Cataratto with grapefruit and apricot flavours.
So if you haven't tried it yet, isn't it about time you did? |
